Making Your Golf Swing Great
If you are in this position, it could be that you aren’t looking to the right place for answers. Maybe it isn’t your technique that is the issue, but rather your mentality when golfing. Hear me out here is it possible that you’re focused on skill, when the true problem is your mindset? Maybe it’s time to at least look at this aspect of your swing.
Let me ask a few pointed questions:
1) Do you have a pre-shot routine? 2) Is ego playing a part in your game? 3) Are your swings “balanced”?
Those may sound like “off topic” questions, but again, stay with me. It’s a fact that great golfers have a pre-shot routine. It might be something as simple as breathing techniques or as detailed as stretching routines, but there is something they are doing to bring themselves to a peaceful state prior to golfing. I’m not saying you need to copy some one’s pre-shot routine, but I am saying that you have to have one.
Another big hindrance is your ego. If you’re more worried about playing like a professional, that can be a block. Putting pressure on yourself to “perform” can bring your game down. Remember how you feel when you’re just practicing? Try to get into that mindset. That may be the key for you to improve. Calm down and be in a state of peace.
Finally, is your shot balanced? When you’re swinging, you should be able to pick your right foot up, if you’re shooting righty. Try it out and see if you can. If you can’t then you aren’t balanced. Your weight should be totally on your left foot, to the point of being able to lift up your right foot off the ground. If it isn’t, then you aren’t balancing right.
