first I want to say that golf is a great sport…
so i think it should get part in the Olympic Games…it would be another big event in the pga or european tour schedule
but it should be a tournament for pros and amateurs…the amateurs should have the chance to qualify for the olympic golf event…
i also think, that it will advertise in other countrys for new golfers…
i think it would be great

the highest point in golf is winning a major. it will always be more prestigious. it’s the same in tennis. you think the likes of nadal, federer and djokovic care half as much about the olympics as they do about the grand slams?

but for the people who have one majors this is the next step. and there are 4 majors a year in golf, the summer olympics are every 4 years and that means that in your career you have at most 7 chances, in majors you get 45-55 chances in your career.

well, you may be right but i’m still skeptical whether woods, mickleson, garcia etc. would really be all that bothered. it should be put in though. maybe as an amateur and pro tournament. it would definitely spread the appeal of the game which can only be a good thing.

golf shud be in the olympics. the only problem is i dont really know how the format wud b. maybe a match play thing with brackets. and im not sure if there will b a lot of countries who wud compete. USA, England, Spain, wud b the frontrunners. the rest of the countries wid get smoked

Jbtil, America is the dominant country in men’s golf. If the European Ryder Cup team were made up of only players from England or only players from Germany or only players from Spain or whatever European country you choose exclusively to fill your team, the American squad would probably still dominate the event. Remember this. The main reason all of the other European countries now play in the Ryder cup is because the USA so thoroughly dominated Great Britain.

Jbtil, one more thing. The President’s Cup has been played seven times thus far and the Internationals have won only once. I think Australia would have the second strongest team but don’t kid yourself the American men would be dominant against any country…at least on paper.

Golf really seems like a perfect sport for the Olympics. The only negative to it would be potential advantages to the “home” team who have played the particular course more than others… unless they’d build a new course just for the olympics.

only reason there are no golf in olympics is because everyone would be pissed cus tiger woods(america) would win all the time
August 9th, 2009 at 9:01 AM
If you havn’t realized, tiger has not been winning as much as he use too. I think it would be an equal shot for all because a lot of countries have at least one player that can challenge woods or mickelson.

can someone explain how they could fit golf into the olympics.
id love to see golf there but i dont think it will happen. finally give me a reason to watch the summer olympics
August 13th, 2009 at 11:13 PM
I would go for that. =) Mickelson and Woods, and if only Palmer was still playing, though he might come back for olympics (HOPEFULLY), and Daly.
